Halloween had turned into a horror story for the Owls with a bad run of unfortunate and unavoidable circumstances meaning the squad consisted of just 11 players, with Captain Sophie Eyre, Keeper Michelle Stephens, Demi West, Jess Morrison and Jodie Stancill all missing, Liv Mellor was once again drafted into the squad with Laura Gilmore taking over 1st team keeper duties..

The Owls kicked off on the 3G pitch at the Army College and as expected Harrogate started the game strong, the Owls formation meant that chances would be limited today but half time came with just a 1 goal deficit. Town had had the better of the half but had not troubled the Wednesday goal much. They had been limited to long distance shots that Laura (stepping into the shoes of usual keeper Michelle Stephens) had dealt with comfortably. Fay Cassidy had cleared a ball of the goal line which had been Towns best effort of the game on 19 minutes. Town took the lead on 25 minutes with a shot hit from distance this time hit low with the ball just sneaking inside the far post. Laura pulled a good save off pushing a good shot over the bar before the Harrogate keeper had to save a shot from Kelly Biney. Phoebe Davis then saw her shot fly wide on 40 minutes.

Half Time: 1-0

As expected Harrogate had the better of the first half but had certainly not out played our lot with them still in the game. The second half was a well fought affair with Town extending their lead on 65 minutes with a cross/shot beating laura for 2-0. Until that point the Owls had still been in the game but heads dropped when a great shot for Town made it 3-0 and more or less game over. The Owls managed a couple of half chances mainly from free kicks but it was game over when Harrogate were gifted a goal in the final minutes of the game, the ball was given away out wide right but the striker finished well slotting the ball home from a tight angle.

Full Time: 4-0

Manager Dave Higgins comment:

No complaints about the result, Harrogate were the better team throughout the game even though I believe the result flattered them slightly. We had 11 good players available but with a 3rd of our squad unavailable and keeper Laura struggling with a rib injury, legs did tire and with Town having the benefit of 4 subs we struggled especially after the 2nd goal went in. Onwards and upwards and we get ready for the next game.
