The Owls welcomed Recar Town to the the SHU Sports Park. Injuries meant the squad was missing Keeper Michelle Stephens, captain Sophie Eyre and forward Emily Higgins so up stepped Reserve keeper, Laura Gilmore and Liv Mellor.

The Owls started strong and were passing the ball well, it was however Redcar that had the first chance of the game when a shot went well over in the 5th minute, Jess Birtles had a good header easily saved two minutes later and Redcar hit the side netting from wide right in the 12th minute. Fay Cassidy had a shot hit well wide before Redcar will have felt unlucky not to be ahead after a shot/cross cleared the defence and hit the far post before going safe. Sophie Trotter pulled off a great last gasp tackle to stop a certain goal from Redcar before the Owls took the lead from a Channy Rymer corner that was met with a Demi West header and 1-0 on 20 minutes. Jess Morrison ran onto another Channy pass and the keeper pulled off a great safe to deny a 2nd for Wednesday. The Owls were playing some great football with Jess B again having a header saved. Somewhat against the run of play Redcar equalised when a short corber worked well for them, a shot came back off the crossbar with the rebound falling for an easy tap in from the Redcar player. Redcar raised their game at this point and a fantastic double save from Laura Gilmore in goal stopped the opposition from taking the lead.

Half Time: 1-1

The 2nd half started with again the Owls starting strong and taking the lead when a cross/shot ended in the net after coming off the back post in the 53nd minute, 2-1. Channy had another shot go wide, Fay yet another and also Jodie Stancill will be disappointed that she didnt make it 3-1 with her shot going wide after being clear on goal. More chances fell for Fay, Demi and possibly the best when Jess Morrison out ran her defender and her shot was blocked when Channy was in front of an open goal had the ball found her. Redcar had not troubled our lot much during the second half but a fantastic finish from 25 yards tied the game up at 2-2 after the player was allowed a bit too much space outside the box. Redcar raised their game late on without creating too many clear chances and the game played out finishing 2-2.

Full Time: 2-2

Manager Dave Higgins comments:

Really enjoyed the game today, I thought we edged it and played the better football, probably our best performance this season, the players are gutted we didn't take all 3 points as am I. I think we deserved the win, at 2-1 we had two great chances to finish the game but missed chances cost you at this level. Big plus's were Laura and Liv stepping up from our Reserves and the fact that their were plenty of chances created all across the team.

Next week another tough home game when Farsley Celtic are the visitors.
