Torrential rain and a last minute swap to 3G greeted both teams at Bawtry Road. Manager Dave Higgins did plan to have a squad of 16 available including a first call up for Ruby Bristow from the Reserves but lost Culf, Spendiff and Brown at the eleventh hour due to situations beyond the players control. That meant a squad of 13 including Jodie Stancill who made the bench declaring herself fit after being injured against Redcar Town.

The game kicked off and the first half was an even half with the majority of the play being in the middle third of the pitch. Sophie Eyre watched an early 3rd minute shot go wide of goal and the Belles had their first corner on 15 minutes which was cleared by Demi West. The Owls did have the ball in the net on 17 minutes when Jess Morrison ran on to a ball from Emily Higgins but was adjudged offside. The Belles had their first shot on target on 35 minutes from distance but the ball was easily caught by Emily Darwin in goal. Pheobe davis was unlucky not to open the scoring on 37 minutes when she burst down the left and her shot was pushed wide for a Wednesday corner.

Half time: 0-0

An even first half with our girls just having the better of the chances, they were told to remain patient, pass the ball better and the rewards would come.

The second half kicked off and within the first 5 minutes Fay Cassiday had seen her shot saved with Jess again just off target for the Owls. Two corners came in quick succession and it was 1-0 on 52 minutes when Demi West threw the ball towards goal and a flick on was bundled in at the back post by Emma Otley. It was 2-0 3 minutes later when a great ball from midfield was met by Jess who beat her player and hit a shot that took a deflection at the near post before hitting the net. Doncaster Belles had their best chance of the game on 58 minutes to get the score back to 2-1. Their player hit a great curling shot that looked to be going in high to Emilys left but a great flying save put the ball out for a corner and kept the game 2-0. The Owls had now settled into their game and a couple of great passing moves resulted in Jess hitting the post and Emily Higgins just not getting an outstretced foot to tap the ball home.

It was 3-0 and game over on 75 minutes when Jess got her second cutting in from the right after a great ball from Channy Rymer. She beat two players and then hit her shot across the keeper for a great run and finish. Jess made it an hat trick and 4-0 on 80 minutes when Sophie played the ball through and her cross was blocked before she picked the loose ball up and put her shot away low just inside the far post. Jodie Stancill came on for the last 10 minutes and finished the scoring after her corner dropped straight into the goal over the keepers and players on the goal line for 5-0.

Full Time: 5-0

Managers comment:

First of all it was great to get the game on today and thanks to the Belles for agreeing to the last minute change of pitch. It was a very even first half but my lot remained patient and had great second half with some well taken goals. Other than the 3 points the most pleasing thing for me was the defensive performance, weve conceded too many goals in recent games but todays clean sheet was testament to a great display from the team.

Next week another cup game this time the County Cup and we host AFC Dronfield.
